Ecological Survey & Impact Assessment

Birds

We provide survey and Species Protection Plans for Schedule 1 species across Scotland. Surveys can include those required for Environmental Impact Assessment through to identification of birds to allow developments with planning permission to take place whilst adhering to wildlife legislation.

We aim to identify all bird constraints to inform construction programs, management of works to allow works to continue where rare species are located, and emergency response when the unexpected occurs. Advice will be honest, considered, and based on experience to ensure none are disturbed and clients are protected.

Habitats

We survey for Phase 1, National Vegetation Classification (NVC), UKHab, Herbivore Impact Assessment plots, invasive species surveys and tree regeneration surveys. We also provide Habitat Management Plans, Peat Management Plans and habitat monitoring plans following construction.

Mammals

We provide protected mammal survey and Species Protection Plans under NatureScot licenses including  badger, bat, Great Crested Newt, otter, pine marten, red squirrels and otters. We aim to identify any protected mammal constraints on site and provide the correct mitigation to ensure protected of both the mammals and clients.

We assist our clients to obtain appropriate licenses to allow works to process where protected mammals are an issue.

Drone Surveys

We also use drones for a range of surveys, including habitat surveys, bird nest checks, and mapping of mammal shelters.

Management Plans

We provide consultancy services for the management of protected species where there is potential conflict between these species and development and maintenance of structures (e.g. railway structures), agriculture and other land uses.

This includes Species Protection Plans and NatureScot license application for protected species such as badger, bat, GCN, otter, pine marten and red squirrel. These plans detail the current state of the species involved at the site in question, how the proposed works will affect them, which mitigation is proposed and what the impact will be with the mitigation in place and how this is monitored.

We are also able to produce Habitat Management Plans for developments and habitat creation and improvement.

Environmental / Ecological Clerk of Works

We also have extensive experience as Ecological Clerk of Works/Environmental Clerk of Works/Environmental Advisor/Planning Monitoring Office on over 70 projects.

As well as advice on planning associated with construction, we provide assistance with fulfilment of Planning Conditions, provision of Construction Environmental Management Documents (CEMD/CEMP), pre- and post-construction monitoring, environmental auditing and advice on environmental and ecological protection and mitigation strategies.
